Rooting Reflex

Primitive Reflexes - 2/8

Does your child have a tongue tie, suck their thumb, are a poor eater or struggle with speech?

It might be tied to a retained Rooting Reflex. It's an autonomic response to locate food and breasts, meaning a child is aware of and is drawn to their food sources by stimulation. We work with children on specific exercises to help eliminate delays and challenges.

Retention of the Rooting Reflex may present as:

  • Anterior tongue tie

  • Thumb sucking

  • Oral hypersensitivity

  • Poor eating, speech and articulation problems

  • Swallowing and chewing deficits

When developing properly, the rooting reflex should naturally be integrated at 3-4 months.
