School-based Occupational Therapy

Back to School with Wonderfully Made Therapy!

Our Wonderfully Made Therapy team is heading back to school, and we couldn’t be more excited for another year of partnering with educators and supporting children in their school environments around Oklahoma!

This year, our team is serving across 4 school districts and a private school, working alongside teachers and school staff to help students participate, learn, and thrive in their educational setting.

During the 2025-2026 school year, we had the privilege of providing Occupational Therapy services to nearly 200 students throughout the year! We’re so thankful for the relationships we’ve built with schools and families and can’t wait to see what this new school year has in store.

So, what is school-based Occupational Therapy?

Educational-based OT focuses on helping a student access and participate in their educational environment. OT may address skills such as fine motor abilities, handwriting, sensory regulation, visual-motor skills, attention, classroom routines, and other functional skills that impact a child’s ability to participate in school.

This is different from medical-based OT, like the services we provide in our clinic.

🏫 School-based OT: The goal is to support a child’s ability to participate in and benefit from their education.

🏠 Medical-based OT: The goal is to address a child’s underlying skills, challenges, and functional needs through a broader therapeutic approach, with goals based on their individual needs and plan of care.

Both models are valuable, but they serve different purposes and goals. Sometimes, children benefit from one, and sometimes they may benefit from both!

We are so excited to continue partnering with schools, teachers, and families to help children become confident and successful in the places where they learn, grow, and play.

Here’s to a wonderful new school year! 🍎✏️
